Recycling!!!

Today after school my friends and I went to find the recycling club.
We found them in the Cafeteria, and asked if we could join them. It was a 'yes' of course, so we went and grabbed our gloves and started finding recycling bins.
When we came back to the cafeteria holding a big blue recycle bin, the cafeteria was already full of big and small blue containers filled with bottles, cans and juice boxes. We immediately got to work. We separated the soda cans from the juice boxes, the plastic bottles from the glass ones. You'd be surprised at how many bottles and cans there were. I was good that there was a lot of people helping each other out, and everyone was just sorting bottles and pitching in.
There was so many bottles I don't even bother to count them. When we were sorting everything out, we had to dump any left over water from the cans and bottles into a bucket. There were so much waste. We even found a couple of juice boxes and drinks that were never opened. I mean who would throw away a brand new bottle of green tea? Or Gatorade? Or strawberry flavoured milk tea? I have no clue, but it was just a waste of money and resource. I am not sure what happened to them, but I think some might have been completely dumped. A good bottle of water, just like that, down the drain...
I have realized how much food and resource we waste everyday. For example if you could have bothered to finish your bottle of Dr. Pepper, or maybe your box of apple juice, it would not just save the people who clean out the bottles, it would also help save our environment. Think about it, is can of soda pop more useful in your stomach, or more useful dumped in a drain?
People consume a lot of stuff everyday, maybe you say "I drink only one bottle of water a day (as in plastic bottle)", if everyone said that, then the world would be so littered with plastic bottles we don't even have the time to deal with it. Of course, that is already the case, which is why we shouldn't drink bottled water any more.
Unfortunately I still have a whole stack of bottled water in our garage, I think I will finish it first, better not waste it. After that I think I will use a mug or something. I mean it wouldn't be fair if I am lecturing people today and not even doing what I tell other people to do. I really have to start taking my own advice...
I really think that recycling can help, and it is not just about people buying less plastic bottles, or recycling once in a decade, it is about people understanding what a serious situation this is. Our environment is slowing being destroyed by us, because we are selfish and wish for more comfort in life. People don't realize this yet, I don't even think I realize it yet.
I don't believe in changing the world or anything like that. I think that we should start from the small stuff. Like not using plastic bottles or recycling used paper and maybe even not throwing garbage everywhere. I believe that every small detail can help.
Joining recycling club has been a fun experience, I hope I can help out more. I am living in my own little world, and life is really just like a very long dream. I hope that I can make the best out of it, and try to make a difference for the sake of all those who lived before us and more importantly all those who will live after.
