Today the Synergy students all went on a trip to explore Vancouver.
We first arrived at the Vancouver airport, where we wandered around to look for answers and food. Before I could help myself, I got a vanilla frappe at Starbucks. Most of the people stayed around food courts. If we couldn't find an answer to the questions, we would ask someone who worked there, or maybe pilots who were passing by. It was really cool. I was trying to find my partner, but I think she just went off somewhere, so I wasn't with her much for the rest of the day.
It was really nice to meet the grade 8 Synergy students, I hope I could say that I remember what the trip was like for the Synergy 9s last year when they were in grade 8, but I wasn't here so...
After the airport we went to False Creek downtown to see the C.P.R Engine 374. I learned interesting new facts about Vancouver, for example Vancouver held the Expo in 1986 and it changed a lot of stuff around downtown. If you noticed what you were stepping on, you would know that the bricks that pave the floors each have a name on it. It is to honour and remember those who donated and contributed money to the Expo.
Next stop was Lonsdale Quay (I think that is how you spell it). I have never been to this place before, and I have never taken the sea bus either, so it was quite the adventure for me. My cousin used to work around Lonsdale Quay, so she had to take the sea bus to get there all the time. Sometimes we would come and pick her up at the station. I have always liked the sea bus station, the high ceilings, marble floors, and tall glass makes me think of England.
The only thing me and my friends were interested in after we got off the sea bus was food. As soon as we were dismissed, we all rushed off to find food. Some of us went to MacDonald, others went to get pizza, sushi, all kinds of stuff. I first got two slices of pizza, then I ate some bread I brought for lunch, and then I ate a single scoop of lemon sorbet Gelato. The Gelato was very good, but I think what was better was the fact that I found someone who liked lemon sorbets as much as I do. Lemon people rock...
Our trip at Lonsdale Quay wasn't over yet, because besides eating, we also had to explore the place. We went to the little park nearby, and played on the kids playground. Despite the fact that we were all high school students and in grade 9, we had a lot of fun. Before we left the place, I was pretty sure I got myself a stomach ache. I blame myself for eating something hot right after something cold, and then something cold right after something hot. I think I was too excited, I can't believe we were all the way in downtown and just "knitting in public", so cool. I don't think something will ever happen like this in China.
Our last stop today was Gas Town. We were so lucky! The steam clock at Gas Town went off exactly when we arrived, and it went off again exactly when we were leaving. For a full hour it sang a little tune, but for 15 minutes it only rang a few notes. I didn't even know they had something like this in downtown.
The bus ride back to school was...interesting. I have never seen old ladies so angry or strange before. One old lady asked us where we were going, and another one hit a grade 8 with some magazine. It was totally weird. I wonder why the lady was so angry. Yes, we were pretty loud. Yes, there was a lot of people, and was really squishy, but we didn't do anything! Other than getting bumped around and around the bus, and being loud like crazy, I thought everyone was really good.
Some of us got off early, it was such a relief to get off that bus...
It was such a tiring day, because even after getting off the bus I walked all the way to the Marpole-Oakridge Community Centre to participate in this Volunteering Orientation. So tired. When I got home the first thing I did was hit the bed. I feel sad, because tomorrow I have to get up really early for choir.
I never really go to downtown much, so I learned a lot today on the exploring Vancouver trip. I hope I get to go around downtown more, I am starting to feel like the tourist who come to Vancouver have seen more of downtown than I have.
