Tomorrow I have a science fair proposal sheet due and I have just finished it.
I was really lost about what I am supposed to do because, believe it or not, this will be my first science fair. I went back to China just when they were starting to do all the good stuff--grade 6. So I guess I missed out on a lot of stuff, so now I have to make it all back.
I couldn't decide what I should do for my science fair so I started with the idea of peppers. I was thinking of doing some experiment that involved testing the spiciness of peppers. So I went on Google to try to find more information. That was when I came across this neat little experiment that shows chemicals (soap) repelling pepper in a bowl of water. It was actually because the chemical destroyed the surface tension of the water pulling the water molecules towards it causing the pepper to move to the far edge. I thought the experiment was very interesting, so I was going to do it on that when I came across this big problem thanks to the help of Mimi and Leslie. If I wanted to prove that chemicals destroy the surface tension of water, then I would have to measure water molecules, and I don't think that is possible, at least not for me.
Another idea I had in the beginning was this back-up plan. If somehow my experiment failed I could do the very boring experiment of bread and mould. But it just seemed a little TOO boring, so I went back to my original idea of pepper and spiciness.
I feel like I am really unfamiliar with the whole process, so I guess I will have to learn more and more during the whole thing. I am really excited about science fair, but other people don't seem to feel the same as me apparently.
I hope my proposal goes through...
