After getting expelled from yet another school for yet another clash with mythological monsters only he can see, twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is taken to Camp Half-Blood, where he finally learns the truth about his unique abilities: He is a demigod, half human, half immortal. Even more stunning: His father is the Greek god Poseidon, ruler of the sea, making Percy one of the most powerful demigods alive. There's little time to process this news. All too soon, a cryptic prophecy from the Oracle sends Percy on his first quest, a mission to the Underworld to prevent a war among the gods of Olympus.
COMMENTS:
THIS BOOK IS AWESOME. (I read this series a while ago...)
For some books, when you bring it up in a conversation, nobody seem to know what you are talking about. But for this book, as long as you include "Percy Jackson", I am sure most people will know it.
Percy Jackson is a kid with ADHD and dyslexia, he doesn't do well in school, and frankly doesn't really fit in. When his maths teacher tries to kill him, and the ball pen his history teacher gave him turned into a sword, he didn't know he was the son of a Greek God, he didn't know that he was going to go to Olympus, he didn't know that he was expected to do great things.
When Percy arrived at Camp Half-Blood, I was probably more excited than he was. The place is magical, it is like a page from a fairy tale combined with Greek Mythology. I admire the author for being able to write a story based on mythology, which can be considered as stories. You can enjoy a great book + learn more about Greek Mythology + improve your reading skills.
Every story needs something to connect it all together, and in this series, it would be the prophecy. In the first book Percy got the prophecy that described his journey to get the Lightning Rod of Zeus back. With every twist and turn in the books later on, more and more prophecys were released. I don't know how the author can determine what his plot is going to be like at such a early stage of a book, you would have to write the whole plot down. When I was trying to write my own book I found that it was harder than it seems.
This series is a MUST READ, I personally consider it as a classic.
Just a few days ago The Son of Neptune, which is the second book of the Heroes of Olympus series, I can't wait to get my hands on it.
Here is a list of the books in Percy Jackson and the Olympians:
1. The Lightning Thief
2. The Sea of Monsters
3. The Titan's Curse
4. The Battle of the Labyrinth
5. The Last Olympian
