Things can never be the same again.
The Spook and his apprentice, Thomas Ward, have returned to the county after a long journey and a hard battle. But their troubles are far from over. Their home has been over-run by enemy soldiers. The Spook's house is in ruins, the boggart protecting it has fled, and the malicious witches imprisoned in the gardens have escaped.
Tom, Alice, and the Spook must flee, too, across the ocean to the island of Mona. And it's on Mona that this small band fighting against the dark will face an old enemy grown terrifyingly powerful. Will they be able to vanquish an evil that crawls beneath the ground itself? At what cost?
Will Tom and the Spook ever be able to return home?
COMMENTS:
I read this book quite a while ago. I was going to write about the newest book of the series, Rage of The Fallen, but I decided to this one instead. I have to admit after reading all 8 books of the series I am pretty unclear on what happened in which book when it come to some details, so I will put down a list of all the books in the series at the end.
For some books it can pull you into the character's world, for some books it can stretch your imagination to the furthest, for some books it brings you back in time. For this book I feel like it can challenge your imagination.
Starting from the first book, the author has been introducing readers to tons and tons of different kinds of monsters, ghosts, demons, etc... But starting from Rise of The Huntress, I feel like the author is taking us back onto memory lane and reviving some older characters in the book. There are still new characters, of course. But I feel like the story is coming closer and closer to a full circle.
The monsters in this series are epic. I can't even begin to imagine how the author came up with them. My favourite monster would be the boggart. Maybe it is because the spook owns a friendly boggart as a house keeper. I was really sad when the spook's house was burned down and the boggart left.
The story is coming closer and closer to the end, I am really interested in how Tom struggles with the and darkness. I also hope Alice will still be Tom's friend. A sentence Tom's mother once said made me more concerned when it came to Alice. Tom's mother was often worried about how Alice would turn out, as she seems to be on the fine line between good and evil. I really hope Alice can help Tom in the future instead of turning into his worst enemy. I can't imagine how difficult it would be for Tom, if he had to capture or possibly kill his best friend.
A lot of books these days are about the supernatural, but this series is a series where the supernatural aren't just vampires or werewolves. There are good and evil, demons and gods, all sorts of horrors from different religions and myths all around the world. Honestly, if you really love adventure and like to come face to face with evil, then you have got to read this book!
